Showgirl and Rural Ambassador Awards are a great way to be involved in your local community, whilst gaining new skills and confidence.  There are opportunities in Open Showgirl and Rural Ambassador categories to progress to Darling Downs, State and National Levels!

​Showgirl Awards

The aim of the Oakey Showgirl Awards is to broaden the knowledge and participation of our youth in the Show Movement and in return for them to learn life-long skills and gain personal development.

The Oakey Showgirl will become an Ambassador for her local Agricultural Show and, also her community. The Oakey Showgirl will represent the Oakey Show Society at the Darling Downs Sub Chamber Showgirl Final to be held at the Toowoomba Royal Show each year. If successful at the Darling Downs Sub Chamber Final, the Darling Downs Showgirl will represent the Darling Downs Sub Chamber at the Queensland Country Life Showgirl State Final to be held at the Brisbane Royal Show in August (EKKA).

The Oakey Showgirl acts as an ambassador for the Oakey Show Society for 12 months – her role is to encourage and promote our local Show to the Queensland youth.  She is selected for her knowledge, her presentation and her passion for her community and her State. 

The competition is no beauty contest, nor is it an ‘intelligence’ test. It is for young Queensland women to raise the profile of Queensland Shows. 

Rural Ambassador Awards

The Oakey Rural Ambassador Awards is open to males and females, twenty to thirty years of age who have a strong commitment to the rural industries and an involvement and passion for the Agricultural Show movement.

The aim of the Oakey Rural Ambassador Awards is to highlight the importance of young people in rural and regional Queensland, in particular, those associated with the Agricultural Show movement.

​

The Awards identify those people actively involved in their local Show, who have a sound knowledge of current rural issues affecting our local areas, Queensland and Australia and have a strong affiliation with agriculture.

​

The Oakey Rural Ambassador Awards consist of the following sections:

• Rural Ambassador – 20 to 29 years, male/female, married/unmarried, children/no children

• Young Rural Ambassador – 15 to 19 years, male/female

The Awards seek young people who symbolise the rural spirit - people with vitality who are forward thinking and with a passion for the land and local agricultural shows.

The competition is run on four levels. The Oakey Rural Ambassador winner will progress to the Darling Downs Sub-Chamber Final which will be held at the Toowoomba Royal Show. If successful, the Darling Downs Sub Chamber winner will then represent the Darling Downs Region and compete in the State Final held during the Royal Queensland Show (EKKA). The winner of the State Final then competes at the National Final held at a State Royal Show. This is a national competition, but with New Zealand joining us in 2008 it has expanded to international status.
